The Circus is Back in Town

So the saga of the WNBA goes on.

Now, if I were a true, dyed-in-the-wool cynic (which of course we all know I'm not) I would have to believe that if there are grown-ups running the league they could have come to a solution to the whole trans issue a while ago, before the protests and the chaos started.

They didn't.

Which leads me to believe they really don't want to. I truly think they couldn't be happier to have discovered this grift - and that they have every intention of maintaining it for as long as the press and internet will carry them. 

I mean, come on - this is millions of dollars in publicity every single day, publicity that the WNBA couldn't score if they brought Wilt Chamberlain back the from the dead, whacked off his money maker and called him a woman.

This is solid gold, a new free ride on the front of every sports-oriented website, newspaper and magazine every single day.

Hell, they're even grabbing eyeballs on CNN, Fox and MS Whatever they are this month.

They couldn't have done this much if they had declared war on Lichtenstein. It wouldn't have happened even if they suddenly began playing the greatest basketball on earth (which they don't).

P.T. Barnum was one of the first to do this but I guess the idea has never lost it's appeal - that being the promotion of the side show. It's an idea that will always get the eyeballs and attention until it stops shocking the masses. So instead of trying to solve the problem, the WNBA understands what it has and will continue to amplify the problem, making it bigger, more complex and wider in scope in order to include as many of those in society as they can who want to chime in with an option or two of their own. 

It's the only answer that makes sense. I mean sure, the race war that's the undercard in all this is intriguing as well, and will probably be the issue that outlasts the trans problem. But with the WNBA, it's all about what's around the game - and not the game itself.

Which reminds me - if trans athletes and their inclusion is such an issue, how come we don't have trans men seeking to break the trans barrier in the NBA? Where are they? I mean, it can't be all about the girls, can it?

There have to be some women, like those Olympic East German weightlifters who competed as women but, well, hey there were definitely some steroids involved at some level, right? 

So here's why it's not happening both ways - because the boys get it. Men, even those who claim to be women but who haven't gone for the big snip just yet understand competing against women you are physically bigger and stronger than, pays off so much better than finishing 363rd against the guys every time. I mean, would you ever have known who Lia Thomas was if he had stuck with the testosterone he was born with? You know the answer. 

And so it goes. The WNBA is not a basketball league, it's the side show before the circus truly begins. Not saying there aren't some excellent female basketball players - and one day, maybe they'll actually find someone forming a league where the game is created to be an exiting showcase of their talents.

This isn't it.

And so, as the next day on the continuing soap opera / freak show unfolds, we are reminded of what banker David Hannum (not P.T. Barnum as is generally attributed to) once stated - 'there's a sucker born every minute'.
